A big factor that reduces happiness in our lives is guilt. The fault is actually a negative emotion that is not useful to anyone.
What is the guilt?
None of us is perfect, and those who feel guilty do it in the conviction that guilt will help them reduce their bad habits and, in some way, it comes to improve the defects of their personality … but will the guilt do it? No. Feeling guilt, instead of contributing to change, allow us to have an excuse to stay as we are.
Suppose you make breakfast every morning with three donuts and you feel guilty. Will the guilt to make you change next time? If you are still eating donuts definitely no. It’s the guilt that you feel that gives you the permission to do it again. You know you are doing something that is not good for you, but because you feel guilty, you convince yourself that you are not a bad person. But this has nothing to do with stop eating the donuts!
How to eliminate guilt
The best option would be not to eat the donuts. But if you decide to eat them, then you might enjoy the donuts without feeling guilty. That’s it: you have to change what you do or how you feel! These are the only two choices.
Which of these two is better? Both! There is no need to always change what you do as well as you don’t need to eliminate only the guilt. You can always do something to change what you do, or decide not to change, but change how you feel, keep doing it, enjoy it, and not feel guilty about it.
