Everyone owned a digital watch, one of the few cheap watches with its own history. Today it’s still the best watch you can buy: it’s precise, not so expensive, full of value and not too complicated. An accessory for those who love to wear skinny jeans and oversize sweatshirts.
Born in 1991 from the idea of Casio, it was the first modern watch with a 1/100 timer, the acoustic time notifications, a water resistance to 50m, the alarm and the annual calendar.
Although it is a small watch, it is more readable than a biggest one. This is because the contrast of the LCD can’t create shadows that obstruct the view. Its acoustic signal is strong but not unpleasant, as with normal alarm clocks. It also has battery that lasts from 7 to 10 years.
Why buying a digital watch?
I understood why so many people love this watch: it is perfect, with a precise cronometer, has a simple design and all the necessary functions. This attention to its value, in spite of the price, is what has made it quickly known and yet still versatile.
So successful that an entire ecosystem of watches has been built around that design, like the Gamiss version you can see in this post, with steel case and bracelet.
A watch beyond technology
The digital watch probably outlast any future technology. There is nothing in the world of technology today that has its own longevity. It is survived to PC, laptop, tablet, most of microwave ovens and a lot of other things.
In an age where technological convergence of information has turned the smartphone, the digital watch is something of an anachronism, worn as much as a fashion statement and status symbol as for its history.
And while everything is broken, the digital watch will always continue to work!
