There is no good reason for body hating. Body hating is debilitating, depressing and truly arbitrary. However, sifting through beliefs and feelings that surround the image of the body, it is something that easily happens. Why?
We are mean to ourselves because we have the idea that we must be beautiful and with a certain type of body to be appropriate and desirable. But we have also the idea that accepting our imperfect bodies and selfs is a weakness. This is why we think that constant disapproval is the best answer to reach that idea of body.
We are cruelly critical of others because it makes us feel like we are not the worst. “I’m not like her” “I’m able to control this” “I’m good enough to be that”. Obviously, none of these things helps us. And it just makes us dig deeper into the hole of a perfectionism that begins to take us away from others.
What we want is not an “ideal body”
We can already do all the things we think we will do when we will be “in shape”. Because this is what we want and not an “ideal body”. We believe that the ideal body will brings us these things, but it is not.
For example, we all have “favourite jeans” and it happens that we want to change our body if we can’t get into them anymore. Yet we can wear a multitude of other unbelievable jeans that fit the body that we have right now.
Sure, we had a different body in other circumstances (I hope natural and healthy), but what we did then was just buying jeans that fitted well to the body on that time.
Do you believe this can be a good reason to hate our body?
