The “tailored” fashion has always existed, but unlike fast fashion, it’s hardly accessible due to high costs. But in the plus-size world it is still something necessary today.
Fashion industry and plus-size
Although clothing is something fundamental, the goal of brands that are as inclusive as possible in terms of sizes is far away. Even today, the selection of plus-size clothing is very limited, with the unavailability of the most current and fashionable pieces. The “plus size” physical stores are often obsolete or the plus-size collections cover a small area of large stores.
This loneliness makes shopping for a plus-size person even more a problem and making the shopping moment more as a stress than a pleasure.
But how can we make it easier for plus-size people to buy fashionable products that best dress for themselves, with a “tailor-made” concept that is affordable?
Where (and how) to create a custom leather jacket
Trying to contribute to positive change, The Jacket Maker is a (digital) place where you can literally get any kind of jacket and outerwear in a customized way. Not only in size, but also in the creation of the model.
The custom leather jacket you see in this post was made with precise measurements, thanks to a tutorial that allows you to check all the measurements correctly. And I’m very proud how it dresses my body, avoiding having areas that are too narrow or too wide.
The leather jacket, most versatile garment
Few menswear items have the same attitude and heritage as the leather jacket. It’s a surprisingly versatile garment and I believe that no male wardrobe is complete without a leather jacket.
But the leather jacket I made is not only perfect in the fit, but also in its customization. I thought a lot about what I wanted to express through my leather jacket and so I decided to create a phrase that comes back into my life many times, both as a mantra and through songs.
A jacket not only tailored, but customized
On the back of the jacket I wrote “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” because I think it’s time to not take it too hard with ourselves. To confuse improving ourselves with throwing us down. And I thought it was perfect, written on a piece of clothing, because very often we are very hard when it comes to buying clothes: we try them and we always think they don’t go too well. And we begin to denigrate our body in the name of something that, in reality, should adapt to us and not vice versa.
Of course, this jacket will not be able to solve all the problems that the fashion industry still has towards plus-size people, but I hope that just as it happened to me, it can give you an extra smile, proudly wearing a garment that reflects you and allows you to better express what you are.
